PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This two-year program is designed to provide students with basic

knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to enter the health care

system as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).  Students develop

knowledge, skills and judgment in assessing, planning, implementing

and evaluating laboratory care for all age groups.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The school will follow the entry requirement set by the Ministry of

Health (MOH). The school welcomes graduates from second cycle

institutions – SSSC, GCE -“O” and “A” Levels.

(i)  For SSSCE Candidates

                 An aggregate score of twenty-seven (27 ) or better, comprising (A-D) in three (3)  Core Subjects, i.e. ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS, and INTEGRATED SCIENCE and  (A=E ) in any three ( 3 ) Elective subjects from a program.

            (ii)  For WASSCE Candidates

                  An aggregate score of forty-two (42) or better, comprising (A1-C6) in three (3) Core Subjects, i.e. ENGLISH, MATHEMATICS, and INTEGRATED SCIENCE and (A1-E8 ) in any three ( 3 ) Elective subjects from a program.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

There will, however be a small quota for mature students who do not have the requisite minimum qualification but have experience, proven interest in the chosen profession. Such mature students will be subjected to an entry examination and interview. All students will go through an interview and a selection process.

International Students may be admitted on the basis of qualifications from their home country for which the West African Examination Council (WAEC) shall determine equivalences.  Evidence of proficiency in the English language will be required in the case of applicants from non-English spoken countries.

EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Upon qualifying Medical Laboratory Technicians will have job opportunities working closely with health care teams in a variety of community clinics, government/private laboratories and hospitals. Medical Laboratory Technicians will perform medical laboratory procedures for the purpose of identifying pathogens and disease to initiate treatment and other diagnostic reasons.

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

According to the Ministry Of Health (MOH), students completing the program successfully must register with the MOH  and take a qualifying examination.

Programs are offered in English and are delivered using a variety of instruction modes. Courses may be offered in the classroom, lab, clinical environment and on-line.

Upon succesful registration, each student is provided with various documentation, including ID cards and an e-mail account which is used to communicate important information about program and course events.
